The Wisdom of God

Devotions Week 31:

He is truly wise who looks upon all earthly things as folly that he may gain Christ. ~Thomas a Kempis

Earthly wisdom. But if you harbour bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthy, unspiritual, of the devil. James 3:14-15
(read 3:13- 16)
Pure wisdom from Heaven. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James 3:17
(read 3:16-18)
The way to godly wisdom. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified… so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom but on God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 2:2, 5
(read 2:1-5)
Wisdom from the Spirit. We have not received the spirit of the world but the spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13
(read 2:6-16)
Ask God for wisdom. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:5-6
(read 1:2-8)
Praise the Lord for all He provides. The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. Psalm 111:10
(read 111:1-10)
The depth of the wisdom of God. Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His Paths beyond tracing out! Romans 11:33
(read 11:33-36)

God of Grace and God of Glory, on Thy people pour Your power.
Now fulfil Thy Church’s story, bring her bud to glorious flower,
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour.

Behold, the hosts of evil around us scorn Thy Christ assail His ways.
Fears and doubts too long have bound us; free our hearts to work and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days.

Cure Thy children’s warring madness; bend our pride to Thy control;
Shame our wanton selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage. Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal.
