Our Identity in Christ

Devotions Week 24:

Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times. ~ Martin Luther

The How of Salvation: saved in an instant and changed gradually. The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Men, what must I don to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.” Acts 16:29-31
(read 16:25-34)
Abandoning the god of this age. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as servants For Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4-6
(read 4:1-6)
Eternal life through Jesus. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For god did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through Him. John 3:16-17
(read 3:14-21)
Righteousness through faith. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:22-24
(read 3:21-25)
What shall we do? When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:37-38
(read 2:29-39)
A new creation through Christ. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation… We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us… 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, 20
(read 5:14-21)
The weapons of Christianity. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have the power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
(read 10:1-6)

In the cross of Christ I glory, towering over the wrecks of time; all the light of sacred story gathers round its head sublime. Through the cross, Christ’s love empowers us worldliness and self deny; by His Spirit it inspires us Him, through love, to Glorify. When the woes of life overtake us, hopes deceive and fears annoy, never shall the cross forsake us, from it shines our peace and joy.
