His Eternal Love and Fellowship

Devotions Week 19:

God is the first object of our love. Its next office is to bear the defects of others. And we should begin the practice of this amidst our own household. ~John Wesley

Love from the Father and the Son. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:13-14
(read 15:9-17)
Family. He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” Luke 8:21
(read 8:19-21)
Gaining spiritual maturity. …Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13
(read 4:11-16)
The way to forgiveness. I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Psalm 32:5
(read 32:1-11)
Healed through faith. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralysed man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:4-5
(read 2:1-12)
The cost of following Jesus. As they were walking along the road, a man said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” Luke 9:57
(read 9:57-62)
The danger of earthly success. Then He said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15
(read 12:13-21)

What a friend we have in Jesus all our sins and griefs to bear, what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer; O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in Prayer.

Have we trails and temptations, is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged: take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness: take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden, cumbered with a load of care? Jesus is our only refuge: take it to the Lord in Prayer. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer; in His arms He’ll take and shield you, you will find a solace there.
