Lord Teach Us to Pray

Can you imagine what it must have been like to witness Jesus praying? The disciples had never asked Jesus how to perform miracles, to heal the sick or cast out demons but what they did ask Him is how to pray. We need to be taught how to pray, there is a right way and a wrong way.

Are We Ready?

Our vision for this year, as it was for 2016, is Digging Deep, Reaching Out. The results of this vision will depend on a critical mass of us being ready. But, what needs to happen to us for us to be ready?

Easter Sunday: Victory!

At Easter we celebrate what is undoubtedly the most important event in the history of the world and if there’s one word that encapsulates this event, it’s got to be VICTORY!
We were dead in our sins until we surrendered our lives to Jesus. The moment we gave our lives to Jesus, He breathed new life into our dead souls. He took what was dead and brought it to life! But this incredible and wonderful news is only possible because of the resurrection. Because of the cross, Jesus freely gives us forgiveness for our sins, and because of His resurrection, Jesus freely gives us eternal life! Without the resurrection, without Easter Sunday, the work of Good Friday is not complete. Sin brought death into the world; the cross brought forgiveness for those sins; but it took the resurrection to erase the penalty of death that we earned for our sins and to bring us from death to life.

Good Friday: He Died For Our Sins

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
(Romans 5:6-8)
This is essentially the message of Good Friday. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Why did Jesus come to earth to die on the cross? To save us from our sin, something we could not do ourselves. If we truly understand what this means we will be filled with gratitude. In fact, Christians should be the most grateful people on the planet.

Forgive As You Have Been Forgiven

Forgive as you have been forgiven. It is essential of a disciple of Jesus to forgive. Yet unforgiveness is something that every single one of us as have struggled with, either in the past or presently. Therefore we really need to comprehend what we have been forgiven of and use that as the fuel for forgiveness in our life. God has forgiven us a debt that we could never pay. A payment that was placed on the life and death of Jesus so that we wouldn’t have to be separated from God.

Ascending the Ladder of Spiritual Maturity

We measure growth or progress in various different areas of our lives whether it be our financial growth, job progression, or maybe our muscle size or waistline. But how often do we evaluate how we are doing as a disciple of Jesus? Are we aware if we are actually moving toward becoming more like the person we claim to follow? Studying 2 Peter 1:3-11 will help us answer the question: “How do we know if we are growing towards spiritual maturity?”
